The Atlanta Braves announced three moves on Monday to whittle down their spring roster.
Pitchers Sugar Ray Marimon and Donnie Veal, along with catcher Braeden Schlehuber, were assigned to minor league camp. The moves push Atlanta's major league camp roster to 44 players.
Marimon had been in the Royals' organization since 2007 before signing a minor league deal with Atlanta in November of 2014. The 26-year-old right-hander compiled a 3.20 ERA last year at three different stops in the minors. He's never played in the majors.
Atlanta signed Veal to a minor league contract in November of last year. In seven appearances with the White Sox last season Veal posted a 7.50 ERA in six innings of work. He'd made six spring appearances for the Braves this month with a 4.05 ERA in 6 2/3 innings.
Schlehuber played the last two seasons with Atlanta's Double-A affiliate Mississippi. During that time he's played in 131 games with a .217 batting average and hit seven home runs. He was 1 for 15 with a walk in 11 spring games this season.
