The Braves have resigned free agent utility man Eric Hinske to a one-year contract with a club option for the 2012 season.
Hinske was a huge part of the clubhouse in his first season with the Braves in 2010. He hit .256 this season with 11 home runs and 51 RBI in 281 at bats.
As a starter Hinske hit .241 with 6 home runs and 36 RBI. Hinske made 50 starts in left field and 26 starts at first base. The left-handed hitter batted .298 as a pinch-hitter with three home runs off the bench.
Hinske was very valuable in the clubhouse for the Braves, and many of his teammates lobbied the front office for Hinske to be brought back for next season.
Atlanta still has to make a decision on Matt Diaz, who might be non-tendered before Thursday night
