The Braves selected Texas high school shortstop Matt Lipka with their first pick, the 35th overall in the supplemental first round of the first-year player draft.

Lipka is a 6-1, 190-pound right-handed hitter out of McKinney High School in McKinney, Texas. He was a teammate of Zach Lee, who was drafted 28th overall in the first round by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Scouting reports have Lipka as one of the fastest players in the country. Baseball America ranked him as the third fastest high school player in the draft.
