Consecutive non-playoff seasons and the potential loss of Steve Nash seem like ample punishment for the Suns faithful.

But with San Antonio holding a 2-1 lead over Oklahoma City in the Western Conference finals and Miami holding a 2-0 lead over Boston in the East, Phoenix fans are facing a dreadful conundrum: Heat or Spurs?

Who should you root for, the most hated team in America or the most hated team in the Valley?

Each has its logic, but neither has any merit. The Spurs eliminated the Suns from the postseason in four of six seasons, most notably in the 2007 Western Conference semifinals when Robert Horry hip-checked Nash into the scorer’s table and NBA commissioner David Stern displayed an utter lack of leadership by approving greater punishment for the victims.

The Heat profited from the most public and most self-absorbed free-agent decision in athletic history -- a move that turned the nation against previously admired stars LeBron James and Dywane Wade.

Now they’re on a collision course for the NBA Finals. Oh, the humanity.

Where have you gone, Jerry Colangelo? Suns nation turns its lonely eyes to you.
