Boston Marathon winner Keflezighi preps for another feat in Atlanta
Meb Keflezighi made history in becoming the first American man to win the Boston Marathon in 31 years. Now, he's looking to pull off another feat in the country's largest race.
He will be the last runner to start Atlanta's Peachtree Road Race on July 4 and attempt to pass as many of the 60,000 participants as possible -- with a goal of 22,500 -- all to raise money for charity.
"Since the day I was approached with the idea, I've been excited about running the AJC Peachtree Road Race to benefit Kilometer Kids," Keflezighi said in a statement.
Keflezighi is aiming to raise $75,000 in an online fundraise for for Kilometer Kids, which benefits the Atlanta Track Club's youth running program.
"Atlanta Track Club's commitment to inspire kids and empower them through a fun and educational running program is directly aligned with my belief that balanced living helps lead youth to success," Keflezighi said.
Keflezighi is the only person to win the Boston Marathon, the New York City Marathon and an Olympic medal and has participated in the Games three times.
Born in Eritrea, Keflezighi fled the war-torn country and became a United States citizen in 1998.
