COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Cody Goloubef to a two-year contract extension through the 2016-17 National Hockey League season, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced Thursday. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.
Goloubef, 25, registered nine assists with 19 penalty minutes and a +12 plus/minus rating, while averaging 15:33 of ice time in 36 games with the Blue Jackets in 2014-15. He was tied for second on the club in plus/minus, earning an even or plus ranking in 29-of-36 games played, and finished third among Columbus rookies in assists, points and penalty minutes.
"Cody is a mobile, puck moving defenseman who makes good decisions on the ice and we're excited about his future as a Blue Jacket," said Kekalainen. "He has shown steady improvement in his game and we believe there is more room for growth in the coming years."
The Mississauga, Ontario native has posted 1-9-10, 21 penalty minutes and a +10 plus/minus rating on 14:41 of average ice time in 53 career NHL games. He has also registered 18-52-70 and 232 penalty minutes in 201 career AHL games with the Springfield Falcons since beginning his professional career in 2010-11.
Columbus' second pick, 37th overall, in the 2008 NHL Draft, Goloubef completed three seasons at the University of Wisconsin (WCHA) from 2007-10, registering 12-25-37, 138 penalty minutes and a +18 plus/minus rating in 118 games. He helped the Badgers reach the NCAA championship game during his junior season in 2009-10. The defenseman also helped Team Canada win a gold medal at the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championships.
