COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS ANNOUNCE 2012-13 REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE
Club set to drop puck on 12th NHL season at Chicago on October 13; home opener set for October 19 vs. Vancouver COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Columbus Blue Jackets and National Hockey League announced the 2012-13 regular season schedule today. After opening the campaign with three-straight road games, including their season debut against the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center on Saturday, October 13, the Blue Jackets will play their first game at Nationwide Arena on Friday, October 19 against the Vancouver Canucks. Game time is set for 7 p.m. The 2012-13 schedule features 41 home and 41 away games and spans 183 days, culminating on Saturday, April 13 at Minnesota. Columbus will play 39 of its 82 games on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, including 21 of its 41 home games (Friday – 12; Saturday – 6; Sunday – 3). The club will play 18 of 24 games at Nationwide Arena between January 29 and March 22, which includes a six-game homestand from February 8-18 that matches the longest in club history. All home games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. except for the following: Sunday, December 2 vs. Montreal (6 p.m.); Sunday, February 10 vs. Edmonton (6 p.m.); Saturday, February 16 vs. Tampa Bay (2 p.m.) and Sunday, March 3 vs. Edmonton (3 p.m.). The schedule once again places an emphasis on division rivalries as the Blue Jackets will face off six times each against the Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues. Columbus will host Chicago in a New Year’s Eve matchup on Monday, December 31, as well as on Tuesday, January 29 and Monday, March 18. The Red Wings visit on Tuesday, October 23; Friday, March 8; and Tuesday, April 2; while the Predators come to town the day after Thanksgiving on Friday, November 23, as well as Thursday, January 17 and Tuesday, March 12. The Blue Jackets and Blues will face off at Nationwide Arena on Tuesday, January 15; Thursday, January 31 and Tuesday, April 9. The club will play four games against non-divisional Western Conference teams, including two at home vs. the reigning Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, November 10 and Friday, November 30. This season’s schedule features 18 contests against Eastern Conference opponents. The Blue Jackets will play home-and-home sets vs. the defending Eastern Conference champion New Jersey Devils, Carolina Hurricanes and Winnipeg Jets, while also hosting Original Six teams, the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers. The Canadiens pay just their fourth-ever visit to Nationwide Arena on Sunday, December 2, while the Rangers visit on Friday, April 5. Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins return to Nationwide Arena on Friday, November 2 with the Philadelphia Flyers set to visit on Thursday, February 14.
