DUBLIN (AP) Former England captain Bill Beaumont has been elected chairman of World Rugby.
The 64-year-old Beaumont, who captained England's Grand Slam-winning side in 1980, was elected unopposed on Wednesday. He will begin his term on July 1.
Beaumont succeeds Frenchman Bernard Lapasset, who chose not to seek re-election as he focuses on leading the Paris bid for the 2024 Olympics.
Former Argentina captain Agustin Pichot was elected unopposed as vice chairman, succeeding Oregan Hoskins.

Beaumont, who won 34 caps for England, is also a former RFU and Six Nations Rugby chairman.
He says ''the sport is in excellent health and over the next four years there will be many great opportunities to further develop and grow the game.''
