Two premier Big West Conference rivalries and the championship game of the women's soccer tournament will be showcased this fall on FOX Sports Prime Ticket, the official regional telecast home of Big West Athletics.
A showdown between longtime women's volleyball rivals Hawai'i and Long Beach State kicks off Prime Ticket's 2016-17 coverage of Big West sports. The first of 20 televised events on the network, UH and LBSU will battle on Saturday, October 8 at 8:00PM (PT) inside the Walter Pyramid.
The Rainbow Wahine capped off an outstanding 2015 campaign with an undefeated 16-0 Big West record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. UH is led by senior All-American opposite Nikki Taylor and fellow first team all-conference honoree Emily Maglio. The Beach followed up an unblemished 2014 conference title with a runner-up showing in last year's race, and finished 25-6 overall. LBSU features All-Big West First Team standout Nele Barber. The matchup also features two of the winningest coaches in NCAA history in UH's Dave Shoji and LBSU's Brian Gimmillaro.
For the fourth consecutive year, Prime Ticket will display the nation's most intense men's soccer rivalry, a Central Coast clash between Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara at the venue known as "Soccer Heaven" â Harder Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 8:00PM (PT) on Saturday, October 22.
Each of the last 10 meetings between these two programs have drawn crowds in excess of 11,000. Last year's battle on Prime Ticket was attended by 14,919 fans, the fifth-highest single-game total in NCAA history. UCSB has led the nation in average home attendance for nine consecutive years. The Gauchos feature senior All-American and MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List member Nick DePuy.
Prime Ticket viewers will also be treated to the finals of the Big West Women's Soccer Tournament, with the winner earning an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. This year's host site is Long Beach State's George Allen Field. Kickoff is set for 1:00PM (PT) on Sunday, November 6. The Beach earned last season's Big West regular season title and the right to host the 2016 tournament.
"The Big West Conference is excited to offer these matchups on Prime Ticket," said Big West Commissioner Dennis Farrell. "We expect these to be very entertaining, intense battles in front of passionate fan bases."
