Big Texas A&M win means $1 million in free furniture for lucky customers

Some Texas A&M football fans are extra happy after Thursday night's stunning 52-28 victory over South Carolina.

And they could have a house full of furniture to show for it.

That's because a College Station furniture store offered the incentive that if the underdog Aggies won by 10 points or more, everything customers bought in a 12-day period leading up to the game would be free.

The Ashley Furniture HomeStore in College Station put no minimum purchase on the deal, which ran from Aug. 17 until Wednesday. The result was $1 million in free furniture, ESPN's Darren Rovell reported.

“This was really good for us,” store owner Mark Wilks told Rovell after the game.

How can that be? Well, Wilks and his wife Cheryll purchased insurance in case the Aggies, who were double-digit underdogs according to some oddsmakers, pulled off the upset.

The Ashley Furniture store isn't the first retailer to lose big on a sporting event.

Massachusetts’ Jordan’s Furniture treated customers to more than $30 million in free merchandise after the Boston Red Sox won the 2007 World Series.
