The staff at FOX Sports Ohio has been debating a topic recently, and we would like your input.
As the All-Star Game approaches, we've been looking at past seasons and asking ourselves "who were the greatest Reds/Indians players ever to play each position?" Trust us, making the list wasn't easy - we went through several drafts and researched players of the past.
Now we turn it over to you.
Between now and the All Star Game (July 16 on FOX), we will be asking you to vote for your favorite Reds player and favorite Indians player at each position.
Today's position - first base.
Sean CaseySpent 8 years with the Cincinnati Reds, 12 years in the majors overall. Went to three All-Star games, all in a Reds uniform. Lifetime batting average of .302 (.305 as a Reds player).
Dan DriessenSpent 15 years in the Major Leagues, 12 as a Cincinnati Red. Finished third in Rookie Of The Year voting in 1973. Lifetime batting average of .267 (.271 as a Red).
Ted KluszewskiSpent 11 years with the Reds, went to four All-Star Games. Finished 2nd in NL MVP in 1954. Lifetime batting average of .298 (.302 with the Reds).
Lee MaySpent 18 years in the Major Leagues, 7 of them as a Red. Was voted to three All-Star Games, two in a Reds uniform. Lifetime batting average of .267 (.274 with the Reds).
Frank McCormickWas the NL MVP in 1940. Spent ten years with the Reds, was an All-Star for 7 of those years. Earned an eighth All-Star trip with the Phillies. Lifetime batting average of .299 (.301 as a Red)
Tony PerezSpent 23 years in the Major Leagues (16 as a Cincinnati Red). Played in seven All-Star Games, all in a Reds uniform. Finished 3rd in voting for NL MVP in 1970. Also played third base, but the majority of his time in Cincinnati was at first base.
Joey VottoCurrently in his 7th year in the Major Leagues, all with the Reds. Was the NL MVP in 2010, and was voted second place NL Rookie Of The Year in 2008. Was just elected to his fourth All-Star Game. Lifetime batting average of .317.
Dmitri YoungPlayed 13 years in the majors, four as a Cincinnati Red. Played in two All-Star Games, once as a Tiger and once as a National. Lifetime batting average of .292 (.304 with the Reds).
Luke EasterPlayed his first MLB game at the age of 34, then spent all six years in the league with the Indians. Picked up MVP votes in 1952, finishing 13th. Lifetime batting average of .274.
Vic PowerSpent 12 years in the Major Leagues, four with the Cleveland Indians. Went to four All Star Games, two as an Indian. Won 7 Gold Gloves. Lifetime batting average of .284 (.288 with Cleveland).
Jim ThomePlayed 22 years in the Major Leagues, 13 of them as a Cleveland Indian. Went to five All Star Games, and finished in the top ten in MVP voting four times. Won a Silver Slugger Award in 1996. Lifetime batting average of .276 (.287 as an Indian).
Andre ThorntonSpent 14 years in MLB, 10 of them with the Indians. Went to two All-Star Games, and won the Silver Slugger award in 1984. Lifetime batting average of .254 (.254 with the Indians).
Hal TroskySpent 9 of his 11 MLB years with the Cleveland Indians. Picked up MVP votes in four separate years, finishing 7th in 1934. Lifetime batting average of .302 (.313 with the Indians).
