The Bengals today signed WR Mohamed Sanu of Rutgers, the first of their two third-round selections (83rd overall) in the 2012 draft.
The Bengals now have signed nine their 10 draft selections.
“Mo has been impressive in the work he’s been able to do with us thus far, and of course it’s great to have this step accomplished,” said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis. “He can play a big role for us this year.”
Sanu (pronounced “suh-NOO”) scorched Rutgers opponents for 115 receptions last season, shattering Larry Fitzgerald’s Big East record of 92 for Pitt in 2003. He is also the Big East career receptions leader (210), having broken the mark of 207 set for Rutgers by current Bengal Brian Leonard from 2003-06. Sanu’s receiving yards total (2263 over three seasons) ranks fourth in Rutgers history.
Known for his versatility as an offensive performer, Sanu also passed for 207 yards with four TDs and no INTs during his career, and he rushed for 653 yards and nine scores.
In addition to Sanu, other Bengals draft picks already signed are CB Dre Kirkpatrick of Alabama (first round), G Kevin Zeitler of Wisconsin (first round), DT Devon Still of Penn State (second), TE Orson Charles of Georgia (fourth), CB Shaun Prater of Iowa (fifth), WR Marvin Jones of California (fifth), S George Iloka of Boise State (fifth) and RB Daniel Herron of Ohio State (sixth).
Yet to sign is DT Brandon Thompson of Clemson (third round).
