ARLINGTON, Texas – The Texas lineup had a familiar look to it Friday as Adrian Beltre was back at third base.
Beltre was the designated hitter for the series in Oakland after hurting his shoulder in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against Los Angeles.
Texas manager Ron Washington talked to Beltre Friday before making the decision. Washington said Beltre could have played third base Wednesday in Oakland.
Texas isn't starting David Murphy against Baltimore. Craig Gentry got the start against left-hander Joe Saunders in center with Josh Hamilton shifting to left.
"He (Murphy) is not swinging the bat like he was earlier," Washington said. "I tried to put as many righties in there as I possibly could against Saunders. The only lefty I have in there is Hamilton."
Murphy hit just .167 in last eight starts of the regular season.
Roster decisions
Washington said the Rangers decided to go with Yoshinori Tateyama as one of the 10 relievers for tonight's wild-card game over Tanner Scheppers because Tateyama can give hitters a different look.
Tateyama is a side-armer while Scheppers is a power righty in the mold of Alexi Ogando and Koji Uehara, who are already on the roster.
Right-hander Mike Adams also wasn't on the roster. Washington said it's unlikely Adams would be in the American League Division Series roster if the Rangers advance because Adams still hasn't played long toss or been on a mound to throw.
