Long shot Up In Time caught favorite Mizdirection in the final yards at Del Mar on Sunday to win the $150,000 San Clemente Stakes by 1-1/4 lengths, giving jockey Rafael Bejarano three wins, including two stakes, on the day.

A British-bred filly trained by Simon Callaghan, Up In Time sat fifth in the field of 10 3-year-old fillies in the early stages of the San Clemente, a Grade II mile on the turf. Mizdirection went straight to the front and built a solid lead. Up In Time moved up to third on the final turn and rallied deep in the stretch to win in 1 minute, 34.66 seconds.

Bejarano said Callaghan, who got his first stakes victory at Del Mar, gave him free rein on the filly.

"He said, 'Rafael, you ride her like you know you should.' I enjoy that," Bejarano said. "Then I really enjoy it when they run like she did."

The winner paid $25.40.

Up In Time has three wins in eight starts for owner Anthony Ramsden of London, with earnings of $138,576.

Earlier, in the $100,000 California Dreamin' Handicap, Bejarano was aboard favorite Norvsky as the 5-year-old gelding rallied from sixth for a 1-1/4-length win.

Norvsky ran 1-1/16 miles on turf in 1:40.96 and paid $5.40.

It was the fourth win in 13 career starts for Norvsky, who is trained by Donald Warren and bred and partly owned by E.W. Johnston. The same connections had a stakes winner Saturday as Acclamation earned a victory in the $300,000 Eddie Read Stakes.

Bejarano, a 29-year-old from Peru, also guided Solar Wind to victory Sunday in a $63,000 maiden special weight and leads the jockey standings with nine wins through the meet's first five days.

In the day's final race, 5-year-old mare Be Driven had to be euthanized after she injured her leg and triggered a three-horse collision.

Be Driven broke her left front fetlock on the turn of the six-furlong sprint. When rider Victor Espinoza tried to pull her up, one horse clipped her heels and fell, and a third horse stumbled trying to jump over the second.

Espinoza was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital with a possible ankle injury. The other two horses and riders appeared to be unhurt.
