Barnes' 20-and-10 night not enough in Arizona women's loss

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Senior Erica Barnes scored a season high 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, but the Arizona women's basketball team (4-16, 0-9) fell to Oregon (12-8, 3-6) 84-72 on Friday night at McKale Center.
Barnes' 20 points came on 7-of-15 shooting from the field and a 6-of-8 effort from the free-throw line.
Three more Wildcats players scored in double digits, as junior Candice Warthen also had 20 and sophomore Keyahndra Cannon and freshman Breanna Workman both added 10. Warthen's 20 points gave her four games this year of 20 points or more, but it was her first since December 15. Senior Carissa Crutchfield had a season-high eight assists for Arizona.
Oregon was led by sophomore Jillian Alleyne, who had 29 points and 20 rebounds.
The Wildcats held the Ducks to 84 points, well below their season average of 95.9, and committed a season-low 10 turnovers but couldn't keep up.
Barnes scored 10 of her 20 points in the first half, but Oregon took control early, storming out to a 14-4 lead in the first five minutes. Arizona eventually narrowed the score to within five, but Oregon regained the momentum with a 7-0 run and did not look back.
"At halftime, we made an adjustment," Wildcats coach Niya Butts said. "We shot the ball a lot better than we shot it in the first half -- that's progress. We have to look at all the little things. That's how we have to gauge the progress, especially when we continue to come up short in these games and shoot ourselves in the foot."
