'Bama recruit sets national career rushing record

Running back Derrick Henry
broke the all-time record for rushing yards in a high school career
Friday night on a dazzling touchdown run befitting of his stellar senior
season.
The Yulee High School (Fla.) star broke the
previous mark on a 52-yard touchdown run with 11:15 remaining in the
first half of Yulee's playoff game against Taylor County. The run
brought him to 123 yards total in the game and 11,253 for his career.
The previous mark was 11,232 yards, set in 1953 by Ken Hall of Sugar Land, Texas.
On the record-setting run, Henry battled through several defenders in
the middle before breaking through and sprinting to the end zone. The
touchdown put Yulee up 6-0.
Henry is a five-star prospect ranked No. 37 overall in Scout's 2013 rankings. He is committed to play at Alabama next season.
It's the second high-profile national record to fall in as many weeks. Last Friday, North Carolina high school quarterback Will Grier threw for 837 yards to set a single-game mark. That record, though, may not make the books due to a technicality.
Henry began the year well shy of Hall's mark
with just 7,864 yards, but he has posted several monster games to help
chip away at the record, including one 502-yard performance.
The 6-foot-3 Henry has rushed for over 100 yards in every game of his high school career.
Another star Florida running back -- Glades Day's Kelvin Taylor
-- is not far behind Henry. He entered Friday night eighth on the
all-time list with 10,115 yards. The Gator commit is a four-star
prospect on Scout.com.
