Baltimore residents return Ray Rice jerseys to Dick's Sporting Goods [Updated]
The Baltimore Ravens terminated Ray Rice's contract Monday after TMZ's release of grisly footage showing the running back striking his then-fiancee at an Atlantic City casino in February.
The NFL followed suit, suspending Rice indefinitely. Now, Dick's Sporting Goods has to figure out a way to dispose of its inventory of Ray Rice jerseys.
According to The Atlantic Wire, customers have come to one Baltimore-area store seeking to return their No. 27 Rice threads.
"Dick's Sporting Goods stores in the Baltimore area were told to pull Ray Rice jerseys from shelves immediately after the NFL announcement," The Wire reports.
The Buzzer reached out to Dick's for information about its return policy for Rice jerseys and will update if we hear back.
As for purchases made from the team's stadium or online, the Ravens can look back one year to when the New England Patriots offered its fans an opportunity to exchange Aaron Hernandez jerseys for a different player's jersey at the pro shop at Gillette Stadium.
The Patriots handed out 2,500 new jerseys worth a total of about $250,000, and turned the collected pile into recycled material.
Update: The Ravens will offer an exchange similar to that of the Patriots.
