Bairstow stars as England takes command against Sri Lanka


LEEDS, England (AP) Jonny Bairstow struck his second test century to underpin England's 298 all out then took three catches to remove Sri Lanka's top order, leaving his team in charge of the first test at Headingley on Friday.
At tea on the second day, Sri Lanka was 43-3 and trailing by 255 runs in the first innings.
Playing on his home ground, Bairstow reached his hundred thanks to an overthrow and went on to hit 140. The Yorkshire wicketkeeper extended his sixth-wicket partnership with Alex Hales (86) to 139 runs after they resumed with England on 171-5.
In reply, Sri Lanka lost Dimuth Karunaratne (0), Kaushal Silva (11) and Kusal Mendis (0) in the space of nine balls, and was reeling at 12-3. Stuart Broad took two wickets and James Anderson the other, all caught behind by Bairstow.
