Badgers ranked No. 8 in first College Football Playoff rankings

The University at Wisconsin Badgers know where they stand in the College Football Playoff picture, and they'll have to make a significant rise in the last five weeks of the season in order to qualify.
In its first release of rankings Tuesday night, the committee placed the Badgers eighth â the same spot they occupy in both this week's Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls.
Alabama claimed the top spot, followed by Clemson, Michigan and Texas A&M. Washington, Louisville and Ohio State trail the top four spots that make it to the playoff.

The Badgers, who are coming off a 23-17 overtime win over Nebraska last week, take on Northwestern on the road Nov. 5.
