After the Wisconsin Badgers basketball team won its first game of the NCAA tournament on Thursday night, the hockey team answered on Friday with a postseason win of its own.

The Badgers defeated Ohio State 2-1 in the Big Ten tournament semifinals to advance to the conference championship.

It was a low-scoring effort controlled by defense and dominated by Badgers goaltender Jack Berry.

Captain Luke Kunin scored in the first period's final three minutes to put Wisconsin ahead 1-0. The Badgers won a face-off in the offensive zone and Kunin was able to light the lamp off a rebound in front of the net.

Ohio State tied it up again in the second period, but Badgers' Seamus Malone fed sophomore forward Will Johnson in front of the net for a goal.

The Buckeyes tied the game again in the third period -- for a minute -- before the officials reversed the call. Wisconsin was able to hold on to the 2-1 victory.

Wisconsin will play in the Big Ten championship on Saturday night against the winner of the Minnesota and Penn State semifinal game, which will be decided on Friday night.
