Badgers hockey holds off Ohio State

MADISON -- The ninth-ranked Wisconsin men's hockey squad held off Ohio State, 5-3, on Friday night at the Kohl Center.

The host Badgers (14-6-1 overall, 5-2-0-0 Big Ten) were paced by standout Tyler Barnes' goal and two assists.

Wisconsin tallied two goals in Friday's second period to seize a 3-2 advantage, then held off a pesky Ohio State squad down the stretch. Wisconsin got a key goal from Joe Faust early in the third period to take a 4-2 lead. Later, fellow Badger Jedd Soleway salted away the game with a goal at 18:29 of the third period.

Wisconsin netminder Joel Rumpel recorded 23 saves on the night.

Ohio State (11-9-1, 1-5-1-0 Big Ten) was paced by Ryan Dzingel's one goal and one assist.

The largest Friday night crowd of the season -- 11,328 -- watched the game at the Kohl Center.
