Badgers fall to No. 2 Denver, 6-5

The Wisconsin men's hockey team started out slow on the road against No. 2 Denver and never completely recovered in a 6-5 loss.

The Badgers (7-5-0) trailed 2-1 after the first period and were outshot 20-9. Denver took over on the scoreboard on a pair of goals to get to the second break up 5-2.

To start the third, the Badgers' Max Zimmer's finished off with a backhand shot at 3:34 to close to 5-3.

At 12:24 in the third, while still on a major power play, Seamus Malone scored off a cross-ice pass from Will Johnson to close to within one, 6-5. They couldn't find the net for the equalizer and fell short on the comeback bid.

UW finished 3-for-7 on the power play, while Denver went 2-for-7. Jack Berry made a career-high 39 saves in the game.

Wisconsin returns to the ice next Friday and Saturday when Omaha visits.
