Badgers fall in double overtime to Penn State in Big Ten championship
On a night when the Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball team upset the defending champs in the NCAA tournament, the UW men's hockey team lost 2-1 in double overtime against Penn State in the Big Ten Tournament championship at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. Wisconsin kept PSU on its toes, outshooting the Nittany Lions 51-33.
Liam Folkes scored the game winner with his second goal of the game, sending the Nittany Lions to the NCAA tournament.
Folkes also scored the first goal of the game late in the first period with assists from Brandon Biro and Kris Myllari. Biro and David Thompson assisted in Folkes' double overtime game-winner.
Wisconsin held the Nittany Lions scoreless in the second and outshot them 18-5 in the third -- when Matt Ustaski's power-play goal tied the game. Luke Kunin and Cameron Hughes assisted on the goal and the Badgers sent the game to overtime.
