Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones is returning to school.

Jones made the announcement Thursday afternoon at Ginn Academy in Cleveland.

"Being the first draft pick means nothing to me if you don't have an education," Jones said. "My education is going to take me 10 times further than football will."

A 22-year-old redshirt sophomore, Jones had never played a meaningful college snap before being called in to lead Ohio State in the fourth quarter of the Nov. 29 regular-season finale at Michigan.

In those three starts -- wins over Wisconsin, Alabama and Oregon -- Jones threw for 742 yards and five touchdowns while completing 61 percent of his passes.

After initial starter Braxton Miller was injured and ruled out for the season before it even began, both J.T. Barrett, as well as Jones, were thrust into the spotlight, helping lead the Buckeyes to their first national title since 2002.
