DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) Opening batsmen Azhar Ali and Sami Aslam survived the initial pink ball test and carried Pakistan to a confident 81-0 against the West Indies in only the second day-night test match on Thursday.

The inexperienced West Indies bowling line-up couldn't extract much out of a placid Dubai wicket after captain Misbah-ul-Haq won the toss to mark Pakistan's 400th test match and opted to bat.

Azhar was on 39 while Aslam, who hit his first boundary off his 64th delivery, grew in confidence and was unbeaten on 36.

Both openers batted resolutely throughout the first session as West Indies captain Jason Holder tried all his six bowlers but couldn't get success.

Pakistan awarded test debuts to Babar Azam, who hit three successive centuries in Pakistan's 3-0 victory against the West Indies in one-day series, and left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz.

Australia and New Zealand played the only previous day-night test match at the Adelaide Oval in November last year.
