MOHALI, India (AP) Virat Kohli hit an unbeaten 82 off 51 balls as India defeated Australia by six wickets on Sunday to advance to the World Twenty20 semifinals against West Indies.

Kohli smashed nine fours and two sixes in the Group 2 match, seeing his team to victory with captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who was 18 not out.

India reached 161-4 off 19.1 overs in reply to Australia's 160-6 in what was a virtual quarterfinal.

Australia chose to bat and openers Aaron Finch (43 runs off 34 balls) and Usman Khawaja (26 off 16) got to the 50-run mark in only 3.4 overs. But Australia slowed down afterward and needed almost 13 overs to reach 100.

Glenn Maxwell (31) was the other main contributor, while Hardik Pandya took 2-36 for India.
