MINNEAPOLIS -- Somehow, Seimone Augustus continues to outdo herself.
In the fourth WNBA All-Star Game appearance of her illustrious career, Augustus was selected to make her first start thanks to fan voting tabulated and released Thursday. Lynx teammate Maya Moore, playing in her second All-Star Game, is also scheduled to be on the floor for the game's 2:30 p.m. CT tip-off Saturday, July 27 at Mohegan Sun Arena, home of the Connecticut Sun.
Cheryl Reeve and assistants Jim Petersen and Shelley Patterson will be there to coach the Western Conference, an honor bestowed upon each of the league's defending conference champions.
Minnesota's franchise leader in career points, Augustus becomes the team's second player voted in as a starter. Moore was the first, as a rookie in 2011, and gives the Lynx two All-Star starters for the first time in club history.
And for good reason.
Before missing the last three games with an ankle sprain, Augustus was her usual, steady self, averaging 15.5 points per game (13th in the league) and shooting 51.4 percent from the floor (eighth). She ranked second in Western Conference fan voting for guards, trailing only Phoenix guard Diana Taurasi, the WNBA's leading scorer at the moment.
Augustus is still day-to-day, though she's dressed for the Lynx's past two contests and will do the same Friday at San Antonio.
Moore has been even more impressive, leading league frontrunner Minnesota with 17.2 points per game and recording seven 20-plus-point outings. Her scoring average, 6.1 rebounds per game, 44.4-percent 3-point rate and 88.7 percent free-throw clip are all career highs.
She finished second in voting for the frontcourt position category.
Lynx guard Lindsay Whalen and forward Rebekkah Brunson fell short in the fan voting but still have a chance to be named All-Stars and come off the bench for the West. Coaches vote to decide the game's reserves, with results coming out Tuesday of next week.
Joining Moore, Augustus and the Minnesota coaching staff are starters Taurasi, Los Angeles' Candace Parker and Phoenix's Brittney Griner. Opposite them, Chicago's Elena Delle Donne and Epiphanny Prince, New York's Cappie Pondexter, Indiana's Tamika Catchings and Atlanta's Angel McCoughtry will start for the Eastern Conference.
