ASU's Freeman earns first-team All-America honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Arizona State catcher Amber Freeman is a first-team selection on the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America team, and teammates Cheyenne Coyle and Dallas Escobedo were second-team choices.
Freeman, a sophomore, was earlier named the Pac-12 player of the year. She's hitting .369 with 18 home runs and 61 RBI.
Coyle, a junior shortstop who transferred from Florida, is hitting .367 with a team-leading 20 home runs and 66 RBI. Escobedo, a junior, is 30-4 with a 2.16 ERA and a Pac-12 leading 317 strikeouts.
“We are very excited about the honor,” head coach Clint Myers said. “All three have had great years and as a program we are proud of what the team has accomplished. We hope that we can continue the success we’ve built on through the year as we play in the Women’s College World Series.”
The other first-team selections were pitchers Keilani Ricketts of Oklahoma, Chelsea Thomas of Missouri, Rachele Fico of LSU and Jessica Moore of Oregon; first baseman Lauren Chamberlain of Oklahoma; second baseman Lauren Gibson of Tennessee; third basemen Raven Chavanne of Tennessee and Taylor Hoagland of Florida; shortstop Madison Shipman of Tennessee; outfielders Janie Takeda of Oregon, Cassidy Bell of Penn State and Kayla Braud of Alabama; and utility players Kaitlin Inglesby of Washington, Alexa Peterson of Oregon and Lauren Haeger of Florida.
ASU junior outfielder Bailey Wigness also earned special recognition, receiving the Elite 89 Award for maintaining the highest cumulative grade point average of any student-athlete at the Women's College World Series.
Wigness is a double major in political science and communication and holds a 4.0 GPA.
