ASU women's golf advances to NCAA finals

The fourth-ranked Arizona State women’s golf team advanced to its 21st-consecutive NCAA Championship appearance by finishing sixth at the NCAA East Regional in State College, Pa. The Sun Devils hold the nation’s longest streak of women’s golf NCAA Championship appearances.
ASU shot 2-under par 286 in the final day of the regional to move into the top eight and earn an NCAA berth. Also advancing out of the region were South Carolina, Texas A&M, Texas, Alabama, Florida, Michigan State and Duke.
Sophomores Justine Lee and Laura Blanco led ASU's last-round charge. Lee shot 3-under 69 for the round to tie for third place in the regional at even par 216, and Blanco shot 2-under 70 after struggling to scores of 78 and 75 in the first two rounds.
The Sun Devils will compete in the 2012 NCAA Championships, May 22-25, at teh Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin Tenn. Arizona State has won the most national championships in NCAA women’s golf history with seven: 1990, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998 and 2009.
