ASU sweeps Oregon State in Dig Pink match

TEMPE, Ariz. -- In front of a season-best home crowd of 1,873 during the annual Dig Pink match, the Arizona State volleyball team swept Oregon State 3-0 on Friday. With a victory in set scores of 25-12, 25-20, 25-16, the Sun Devils improved to 14-8 overall and 3-6 in the Pac-12.
Allison Palmer had 37 assists for an ASU team that outhit Oregon State .257-.010. Erica Wilson led the Sun Devils offense, posting 16 kills on the night. Macey Gardner added 13 kills of her own and nine digs.
The opening set saw the Sun Devils open with an 11-4 lead, with ASU swinging .357 heading into an Oregon State (13-8, 3-6 Pac-12) timeout. With back-to-back kills from Whitney Follette and Erica Wilson, the Beavers took their second timeout of the frame at 16-6. Arizona State rolled from there to a 25-12 set victory, and Wilson finished with eight kills in the frame.
Building momentum in the second, ASU found itself with a 4-3 lead after Wilson recovered a ball leading her into the scorer’s table before coming back in the rally to notch her 10th kill. The Devils built a five-point lead, 10-5, but the Beavers chipped away to tie it at 11-all. Following three additional ties, Arizona State regained control at 18-17 en route to the 25-20 set win.
Using three straight kills from Wilson, Alexis Pinson and Macey Gardner, the Sun Devils built a 6-4 advantage in the third stanza. Gardner reached double-digit kills (12) after teaming with Follette and Nora Tuioti-Mariner to stretch the Arizona State lead to 18-5 on 12 consecutive points. The Beavers were unable to respond to the Devils' .216 attack percentage in the frame, and ASU took the set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
