TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona State softball team finished off a sweep of Oregon State on Saturday by hitting five home runs en route to an 11-0 mercy-rule win in five innings.
Amber Freeman went a team-best 2 for 3 with two home runs and four RBI for the Sun Devils (34-3, 5-1 Pac-12), who overpowered the Beavers (23-9, 0-3 Pac-12) in the three-game series.
Dallas Escobedo earned the win with her sixth shutout of the season to improve to 18-3 overall. She is now tied with Sun Devil Hall of Famer Erica Beach with 79 career wins, good for fourth on the career list at ASU.
Freeman got things started early for Arizona State, hitting her 10th home run of the year in the bottom of the first. The sophomore catcher wasn't done, however, hitting her second long ball in the third frame to stretch ASU's lead to 4-0. Freeman had all the team's RBI on the stat sheet at that point thanks to her first career multi-homer game.
Oregon State elected to bring in Marina Demore to pitch in the bottom of the fourth, sitting down starter Tina Andreana after three innings. ASU wasn't fazed, though, racking up seven runs on four hits -- three of them homers -- in the inning to make it 11-0.
Getting home runs in the bottom of the fourth were Sam Parlich with her eighth of the year, Cheyenne Coyle with her 12th, and Elizabeth Caporuscio with her fifth. Six of the seven runs in the frame were plated via the long ball; Alix Johnson picked up an RBI single to score Bailey Wigness unearned.
It was the second time this season that Arizona State hit five home runs in a game, also accomplishing the feat on Feb. 28 against North Dakota.
Andreana took the loss and fell to 4-2 on the year.
