ASU softball drops series finale with Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. – The second-ranked Arizona State softball team (36-4, 7-2 Pac-12) dropped its series finale against No. 14 Stanford (27-12, 5-7 Pac-12) by a score of 4-3 Sunday afternoon.

Dallas Escobedo took the loss for the Sun Devils but struck out nine in six sharp innings. Teagan Gerhart got the win for the Cardinal, going the distance and striking out three.   

ASU was led offensively by Cheyenne Coyle, who homered -- her second of the series -- to give her 14 on the year, tied for 15th on the school's single-season list.

The Devils have homered in their last 12 games. In all three games against Stanford, ASU started the scoring with a homer in the first inning.

ASU returns to Farrington Stadium to host Washington for a three-game series starting Friday,
April 12.
