ASU adds placekicker to 2013 recruiting class

Arizona State has uncovered another potential answer to a troublesome question that's dogged the football program for the last few seasons.
On Thursday morning, ASU announced the addition of Deer Park, Texas, placekicker Zane Gonzalez to the 2013 recruiting class, giving it a third competitor in the fall at a position that has been a problem in recent years.
ASU coach Todd Graham said recently that placekicker was one of the areas needing the most improvement ahead of the 2013 season. Junior Alex Garoutte opened the year as the Sun Devils' kicker last season and went 6 for 11 on field-goal attempts, eventually losing the job to walk-on junior Jon Mora, who finished the year 9 of 12.
According to a release, Gonzalez also had offers from Wisconsin and Nevada. During his senior season at Deer Park, the release says, Gonzalez went 10 for 10 on field-goal attempts, with a long of 44 yards, after going 16 for 18 as a junior with a long of 48 yards.
Gonzalez, who also plays soccer at Deer Park, was a third team all-state selection by the Texas Sportswriter's Association after his senior season.
