But before I begin, last week we linked to an blog by Jeff Lambert of Lakersnation.com on the 10 greatest nicknames in Lakers history. I thought I would start by listing my favorites, then we will go into your questions.
You can go back to the Lakers first decade in Los Angeles for one of the best, still to this day and that's" Mr.Clutch,? Jerry West. They would also call West, ?Zeke from Cabin Creek,? and then later, ?The Logo.?
Right after that, the arrival of Wilt Chamberlain, brought along with him one of my all-time favorites, "The Big Dipper." You didn't want to call Wilt, "The STtilt," as he really didn't like that one. Earvin "Magic" Johnson, will always be one of the unforgettable, joining the Lakers in 1979. "Big Game" James, for James Worthy was fitting. "Big Shot" Rob for Robert Horry, won't fade away. "Hot Rod" Hundley was a good one and Jamaal "Silk" Wilkes was one of my favorite players.
And no list would be complete without Harold "Happy" Hairston on it.
There's plenty of good ones, but Mr. Clutch still stands out decades later.
