GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) -- Right-hander Bronson Arroyo was scratched from Cincinnati's pitching plans even before rain forced cancellation of the Reds' game Monday against the Seattle Mariners.

Manager Dusty Baker said Arroyo has been suffering from effects of the flu for about 10 days. He had planned to start a minor leaguer in his place against the Mariners.

Baker hopes to get Arroyo back on the mound Thursday against the Rangers.

The Mariners were aware the game would likely be called because of rain, so they had scheduled starter Michael Pineda pitch against their minor leaguers in camp. Manager Eric Wedge said the rookie looked good while throwing 75 pitches in five innings.
