Arizona volleyball takes down Oregon State

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Four players recorded double-figure kills to lead the Arizona volleyball team (12-4, 2-2 Pac-12) to a 3-1 victory (23-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-14) over Oregon State (9-6, 0-4 Pac-12) on Sunday at McKale Center.
Olivia Magill, Madi Kingdon and Jane Croson each finished with a match-high 13 kills on the afternoon. Magill was extremely efficient, as she hit .524 while also adding five blocks. Kingdon recorded her eighth double-double of the year, as she recorded a match-high 14 digs to go with her 13 kills and two blocks. Meanwhile, Taylor Arizobal also finished with double-digit kills, as she had 11 with four blocks. Setter Penina Snuka dished out 39 assists with 11 digs and a kill for her sixth double-double of the season.
The Wildcats were solid on both ends of the floor, hitting .273 for the match while holding the Beavers to just .114 hitting. In addition, Arizona outblocked Oregon State 15-4. Hall Amaro had a match-high eight blocks, while Ashley Harris recorded a career-high seven blocks. Candace Nicholson was the third member of the Wildcats with 10 or more digs, as she recorded 13 with five assists.
The two teams battled back and forth at the beginning of the opening set, but Oregon State went on a 5-0 run with the score tied 14-14 to take a 19-14 advantage. The Wildcats battled back to eventually pull within one at 24-23, but a Lila Toner kill clinched the set for Oregon State, 25-23. The Beavers hit just .163 in the set, but Arizona was held to just .079 hitting.
Arizona opened the second set on a 9-4 run and it maintained a lead until Oregon State battled back to tie the score 20-20 late in the frame. The Beavers were never able to take control of the lead; however, as the Wildcats clinched the set on a kill by Croson. Arizobal led the Wildcats with five kills in the set, while Nicholson paced the defense with five digs. Arizona was more efficient offensively with a .250 hitting percentage, while holding OSU to just .108 hitting.
Oregon State jumped out to a 5-3 lead in the third set, forcing the Wildcats to take a quick timeout. Arizona won the next two points to tie the score. The Wildcats grabbed the lead for good when they turned an 8-8 tie into a 10-8 advantage. From there, Arizona pulled away and won the set, 25-14. The Wildcats hit an impressive .455 in the set, while they stymied Oregon State’s offense to just a .032 hitting efficiency. Kingdon led the UA offense with seven kills in the set.
The Wildcats grabbed the lead early in the fourth set at 4-3, and they never looked back from there. Arizona built the advantage and then cruised to a 25-14 victory. The Wildcats were efficient offensively once again, as they hit .344 while the Beavers hit just .132 in the frame.
The trio of Laura Schaudt, Arica Nassar and Sara Almen each had nine kills to pace the Oregon State offense.
