TUCSON, Ariz. -- University of Arizona swimming and diving coach Eric Hansen is stepping away from his coaching duties to "attend to personal matters," UA announced in a statement from the athletic department.

“Coach Eric Hansen is currently attending to personal matters that require him to be away from his coaching responsibilities," UA athletic director Greg Byrne said in a written statement on Tuesday afternoon. "We wish Eric the best during this time.  Associate head coach Rick Demont will provide leadership to the program in Eric’s absence.”

No other information was provided.

Hansen, a U.S. National Team head coach and Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year, was hired in spring of 2011. He coached at the University of Wisconsin for 12 years before coming to Arizona. He succeeded the popular and successful Frank Busch, who left to become the USA Swimming's National Team Director.
