TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona pitcher Kenzie Fowler, two-time All-American who led the Wildcats to the 2010 Women's College World Series championship game, will miss the remainder of the season due to a diagnosis of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome in her left shoulder.
Fowler, a senior, has a history with the syndrome and had surgery on her right arm and shoulder in 2007. She will undergo further evaluations to determine her future course of action.
"We are all very sad about Kenzie's recent diagnosis of TOS," said Arizona coach Mike Candrea. "She has endured so much to represent our university and the Arizona softball program. We will enjoy the great memories that she has provided our fans, the Tucson community and her teammates over her career as a Wildcat. Although her softball career has come to an end, Kenzie will be remembered always for her stellar performance at the 2010 WCWS, a two-time All-American and the very best teammate you could ask for. She represented our university and softball program with extreme class and dignity and endured more than you will ever know to represent our program.
"Kenzie will be highly successful in her new career as a broadcast journalist. It was truly an honor for me to attend graduation and listen to her keynote speech as the outstanding graduating senior in the school of journalism. On behalf of our entire program, we will be praying for a full and successful recovery for Kenzie and want to thank her for all she has done for the University of Arizona and our softball program."
Fowler, along with Arizona's other four seniors, will be honored in a senior ceremony following Saturday's regular-season finale against Oregon.
