SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Washington baseball team collected a dozen hits and pitcher Tyler Davis tossed seven strong innings in a 5-2 victory over visiting Arizona on Saturday afternoon at Husky Ballpark.
Washington (15-5-1, 4-1 Pac-12) never trailed in the game, winning for the second day in a row to capture a series victory following Friday 8-7 come-from-behind win.
Arizona (11-14, 1-4 Pac-12) dropped its fifth straight game overall and has lost consecutive regular season series to the Huskies for the first time in the history of the two programs.
Braden Bishop sparked the Washington offense with a 2-for-4 day and a pair of runs scored out of the leadoff spot. He singled in the first inning, stole second base, was bunted to third and scored on Robert Pehl's sacrifice fly to put the Huskies on top 1-0.
The Wildcats answered with a run in the top of the second following Trent Gilbert's leadoff single. A bunt and groundout put Gilbert on third with two outs, before Davis threw a wild pitch to allow Gilbert to score the tying run.
Washington claimed the lead for good in the third when Bishop led off with a double, was again bunted to third by Andrew Ely and Pehl delivered a run-scoring groundout for his second RBI of the game.
An inning later, Trevor Mitsui, who went 3-for-4 in the game, singled and scored on Austin Rei's two-out double, putting the Huskies ahead 3-1.
That advantage ballooned to a four-run cushion in the sixth. Branden Berry and Brian Wolfe each singled with one down to set up an RBI single from Mitsui. Rei late drove in his fifth run of the series with a single to cap the scoring.
Arizona starter Cody Hamlin (L, 3-2) took the loss after giving up five runs -- four earned -- over 7.1 innings of work. He allowed 12 hits, struck out four and did not issue a walk.
Davis (W, 4-1) cruised through the middle innings before leaving in the eighth when he issued his only walk of the game. The right-hander allowed just three hits and struck out two with just the one run allowed in the second inning.
The Wildcats only significant scoring threat came after Davis left the game in the eighth. With two on and two out, Joseph Maggi drove in a run with a single off reliever Trevor Dunlap, which brought the tying run to the plate. But Dunalp induced an inning-ending groundout off the bat of Kingery, and the Huskies maintained a 5-2 lead.
In the ninth, right-hander Troy Rallings set the Wildcats down in order. Rallings picked up his second save of the series and his third of the year.
The series will wraps up Sunday with the finale set for 1 p.m. (PDT) at Husky Ballpark.
