In the final seconds of Wednesday night's game between the Washington Wizards and Detroit Pistons, Wizards forward Trevor Ariza tossed up a 3-pointer from the corner for what would have been a game-winning buzzer-beater.
The net swished, the crowd cheered but the Pistons were the ones celebrating while the Wizards walked off the court with their heads down.
The deceiving shot was short of heroic — an airball — but good enough to fool those in attendance at the Verizon Center, including the play-by-play announcers of each team. Instead of a Wizards' victory, the Pistons won 96-95.
