ANAHEIM, Calif. — Angels pitching coach Mike Butcher, whose starting staff has been struggling of late, was hit with a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for arguing with plate umpire Mike Estabrook over balls and strikes last Sunday.

Butcher was ejected by Estabrook as soon as he came out of the dugout in the first inning against the Seattle Mariners. Starter Jered Weaver appeared perturbed about Estabrook’s calls, and when Butcher joined in, he was immediately tossed.

Butcher will serve the suspension Tuesday night for the Angels’ game against the Cleveland Indians. The penalties were handed down by Joe Garagiola Jr., senior vice president of standards and on-field operations for Major League Baseball.
