The Angels have exercised the option on general manager Jerry Dipoto's contract for the 2016 season.

President John Carpino announced the move in a release issued by the Angels on Friday.

"Jerry and his staff have continued to demonstrate strong leadership skills throughout our organization," Carpino said in the statement. "We are proud of Jerry's body of work as evidenced by last year's club which won 98 games. We believe exercising Jerry's option through 2016 is a good business and baseball decision."

Dipoto is in his fourth season as general manager of the Angels. Last year, the Angels won the AL West and made the playoffs for the first time in five years but were swept by Kansas City in the first round of the playoffs. The Angels won 98 games last year and had the best offense in baseball.

Before Friday's game, Dipoto was all smiles on the field as the team's first-round draft pick, catcher Taylor Ward, was taking photos, signing autographs and being introduced to folks.
