OAKLAND -- With outfielders Vernon Wells (right thumb) and Ryan Langerhans (right shoulder) headed to the disabled list because of injuries sustained in Sunday's 3-2 loss to San Diego, the Angels are calling up outfielder Kole Calhoun from triple-A Salt Lake for Monday night’s game against the Oakland Athletics.
The Angels, who used six relievers in Sunday’s 13-inning game, also will call up right-handed pitcher Bobby Cassevah, who missed all of spring training because of a shoulder injury. Cassevah was 1-0 with a 6.75 ERA in 13 games for Salt Lake after starting the season with Class-A Inland Empire in April.
The left-handed-hitting Calhoun, 24, hit .296 with a .365 on-base percentage, five home runs, 14 doubles, 31 runs batted in and 30 runs in 43 games for Salt Lake.
The former Arizona State University standout bypassed the double-A level after hitting .324 with a .410 OBP, 22 homers, 36 doubles and 99 RBIs in 133 games for Class-A Inland Empire last season, and .354 with the Angels in spring training.
With right fielder Torii Hunter still on the restricted list, the Angels are expected to go with a starting outfield of Mike Trout in left, Peter Bourjos in center and Mark Trumbo in right.
