Like father, like son?
Hours after New York Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte picked up his 250th career win over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday, he was able to watch his team draft his son in the MLB First-Year Player Draft.
The Yankees selected Josh Pettitte in the 37th round, and to make things even better, CBSSports.com reports that Josh was on the road with his father when they heard the great news.
"It's a good day to be the Pettittes, I guess," Josh told CBSSports.com.
The report stated that Josh received the call from the Yankees during the 8th inning of Saturday's game, just after Andy got out of the shower in the locker room.
Josh is set to attend Baylor in the fall.
"I'm proud of him," Andy told the website. "Not just for baseball, but for the kid he's been."
We caught up with Josh back in February after the senior from Deer Park High School near Houston, Texas threw a no-hitter, striking out 10 batters in the process.
As a junior, the 6-foot-1 right-hander had a 0.89 ERA. He throws a fastball in the upper 80s to the low 90s — and he has a great coach who is just a phone call away when he needs a tip or two.
"He sends me a text before every game that says 'Good luck buddy, to God be the glory," Josh said in our February report. "He's just a bystander now."
Well, not really anymore ... he's basically now a teammate.
