Andrews: DirecTV withheld death threats

Sportscaster Erin Andrews is outraged at DirecTV for failing to immediately notify her about e-mails threatening her life, TMZ reported Saturday.

E-mails threatening the "Dancing with the Stars" contestant were sent to the "Dan Patrick Show."

The e-mails — sent by a man in Newport News, Va., to the show — began in September but Andrews was allegedly not told of the threats until Thursday.

Andrews’ lawyer, Marshall Grossman, told TMZ: "We are outraged that these e-mails did not come to our attention until now."

The e-mails were initially sexual in nature but turned violent on March 14, with a message containing direct death threats.

The threatened violence escalated with two more e-mails on March 29 and one on March 31.

One e-mail read: “Somebody should shoot her in the face."

Another said: "I'm one in a million. She'll never see me coming."

Grossman released a statement to TMZ about the threats against his client and said the FBI was investigating.

"It is correct that within the past few days death threats have been made against Erin Andrews. As soon as we learned of them the FBI was notified. They are on the case,” he said in the statement.

"Erin and her family are protected. It is unfortunate that there are sick people who prey on the fears and threaten the well being of others. Erin is not alone among those who have to deal with such predators."

The threats have prompted increased security on the set of “Dancing with the Stars”.

"Erin is looking forward to the future and will keep all of her commitments including her appearance on 'Dancing with the Stars.' We ask that the privacy of Erin and her family be respected,” Grossman said in the statement.

Grossman later added that his client was "having a tough time."

A representative for DirecTV said: "DirecTV executives at the ‘Dan Patrick Show’ became aware of the threatening e-mails on March 30 and immediately notified DirecTV corporate security who then immediately contacted the appropriate authorities and representatives of Erin Andrews."

The news comes after a Chicago man was sentenced to 30 months prison in Los Angeles for stalking Andrews and filming her nude through a hotel room door peephole.

Andrews, 31, currently works for ESPN as a sideline reporter. She was voted "America's Sexiest Sportscaster" by Playboy magazine in 2007 and 2008.
