Andre Johnson, Clinton Portis, Lamar Thomas to be honored

Three former football stars were announced as part of the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame's Class of 2014.
Current Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson, as well as former NFL players Clinton Portis and Lamar Thomas, will be honored at halftime of the Hurricanes' home finale against Virginia on Nov. 23.
Johnson (2000-02), caught 52 passes for 1,092 yards with nine touchdowns in his junior year. He is just one of two Miami wideouts to gain over 1,000 yards in a season. Johnson was named the 2002 Rose Bowl game's Most Valuable Player as the Hurricanes captured their fifth national title.
Portis, who played nine years in the NFL (seven with the Redskins and two with the Broncos), ranks fourth among Miami's all-time leading rushers with 2,523 yards on 440 carries (seventh-most). He is tied with Edgerrin James for the program lead with 14 100-yard rushing games.
Thomas left UM as the school's all-time leader in receptions with 144 (now second behind Reggie Wayne), second in touchdown receptions (22) and receiving yards with 2,271 (now fourth). He spent six years in the NFL -- three seasons apiece with the Dolphins and Buccaneers.
The University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 1966. The football trio, as well as five other former student-athletes (James Jones, Rio Ramirez, Wyllesheia Myrick, Jeff Morrison, Javy Rodriguez), will be honored at the 46th annual induction banquet April 10, 2014.
