LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) American Pharoah has arrived early at Churchill Downs in preparation for next month's Kentucky Derby.
The 3-year-old colt arrived Monday from Oaklawn Park, where he won the $1 million Arkansas Derby by eight lengths on Saturday.
Jim Barnes, assistant to Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert, says American Pharoah is a good traveler and they didn't want to return to California and then go East again.
American Pharoah has four wins in five career starts. Barnes says the colt won't need much training over Churchill's dirt track to be ready for the Kentucky Derby on May 2.

Baffert's other two Derby hopefuls, undefeated Dortmund and Santa Anita Derby runner-up One Lucky Dane, remain in Southern California.
