Beezie Madden of the United States qualified for the final four in the jumping competition at the World Equestrian Games on Saturday, along with Rolf-Goran Bengtsson of Sweden, Patrice Delaveau of France and Jeroen Dubbeldam of the Netherlands.
Delaveau and Dubbeldam jumped two clear rounds on Saturday while Madden and Bengtsson could afford to knock down a fence.
The jumping competition ends on Sunday.
Olympic champion Steve Guerdat of Switzerland and Rodrigo Pessoa of Brazil failed to qualify for the final four, finishing 11th and 21st respectively.
Delaveau edged Madden by 0.08 point, Bengtsson by 0.26 and Dubbeldam by 2.17 points. American rider McLain Ward wound up fifth, missing the final by 0.31.
Bengtsson and Madden, who finished second and third respectively at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, had enough maneuvering room as they started the day with less than a penalty point.
Bengtsson made no mistake in the first round but took out a a fence in the second, while Madden dislodged the front rail of an oxer in the first round before jumping clear in the second.
Dubbeldam, who won the team jumping with the Netherlands, needed a flawless performance to overcome 13th place after Thursday's qualifying.
World champion Boyd Exell of Australia took the overall lead in driving after the marathon, followed by top-ranked Chester Weber of the United States and Theo Timmerman of the Netherlands.
The driving competition finishes on Sunday with the obstacles.
Britain tops the medals table so far with seven gold medals, and 15 overall, followed by Germany, the Netherlands, the United States and Belgium.
