HOOVER, Ala. — Alabama and Georgia, the combatants in last year's epic SEC title game, were chosen as the media's preseason division favorites Thursday morning.

Among the 243 votes cast (an SEC Media Days record), Alabama notched 225 first-place tallies for the West division, or 92 percent.

Georgia, in turn, snagged 149 first-place votes (61 percent), eclipsing South Carolina (75 votes) and Florida (19) for top honors in the East division.

In the West, Texas A&M eked out more votes than LSU, 11-7. But neither school could match the preseason momentum of Alabama, the two-time defending BCS national champions.

The predicted order for the divisions:

1. Georgia
2. South Carolina
3. Florida
4. Vanderbilt
5. Tennessee
6. Missouri
7. Kentucky

1. Alabama
2. Texas A&M
3. LSU
4. Mississippi
5. Auburn
6. Mississippi State
7. Arkansas
