Al Shemali wins $5 million Dubai Duty Free

Long shot Al Shemali has won the $5 million Dubai Duty Free, pulling away from a crowded field to pull off a surprisingly easy win in the Dubai World Cup.

Al Shemali, owned by a member of Dubai's royal family, was not expected to challenge the favorites Presvis and Alexandros, and was given 40-1 odds in Britain of winning.

Al Shemali started slow and allowed Take The Points to set the pace. But then Take The Points faded and Al Shemali dueled it out with Bankable before taking the lead for good. Favorites Presvis finished 11th and Alexandros 14th.

It was the third victory for the royal family on Saturday in the eight-race, $26 million program.
